Several folks have asked about the both OpenDNS and SSH to Macs lately. So I thought I would toss the links together here in one spot.
SSH Remote Access for Mac
I demonstrate an automator I use to save prep time steps when getting ready to edit a show. The automator creates my dated show folder, copies in the show template and makes several subfolders.
I walk through how I have mix minus setup to my Mackie 802-vlz3 board for multi track podcast recording. This goes along with my other video on using audio hijack pro for multitrack recording. I do realize you can pan one channel left and another right (such as the recording host and the music-fx) then record that coming out of the master mix. I don’t do this because it creates the extra work in post processing of having to break them apart into mono tracks. Plus doing individual hijacks in AHP lets me apply different audio processing stacks to the capture live as recorded. This setup works well when wanting to record all three tracks on one end when using skype. You might want to do this for interviews or when your cohost is traveling.
I demonstrate one way I have used to reduce my work load. I use an Automator to set all the show tags, convert to MP3 then I just have to manually add the album art in iTunes. From there you can copy the file and upload it for your podcast distribution using your normal process.
I demonstrate one way I can emulate a mix minus setup when recording a podcast double ender. This lets the cohost on the other end of skype hear the host and sound fx he plays.
We tweak our Soundtrack Pro podcasting multitrack template. We fix one setting we left in surround sound from the first video and we add a noise gate to our vocals submix.
I cover how I create a base show template using a Soundtrack Pro multitrack project. We keep with our Double Ender strategy and setup a submix just for the vocal tracks. We apply limiters and a fat eq to clear up the voice tracks by default. From this template you can tweak and update it specifically for your show format and usual audio characteristics.
I show how I approach recording a podcast that has two hosts remote to each other and a sound effects track going “live to hard drive”. We still end up with multiple tracks (three) for the ability to enhance each track as needed without modifying the others. I demonstrate the easy trick to lining the tracks back up in sync before editing.
We use Audio Hijack Pro, Soundboard and Mpeg Streamclip in our example.
